SNOW REPORT:
Snow depths have compressed drastically after a late January Thaw. Total snow pack is 12-15 inches in the woods.
TRAIL REPORT:

Reports were surprisingly good as all our current riders have noted that the trails were way better than expected. There seems to be a snow line at the Kennebec River with conditions north of the River going from fair to good-excellent condition. Groomer operators have been reaching in their bag of tricks and pulling snow from anywhere they can. Route 66 did seem for fair better than ITS 88, so please plan your trip accordingly. There is some icing on corners so watch your speed and stay in control. A few dustings of fresh snow have are helped with lubrication. More good news is that snow depths are shallow enough that you can get a bit adventurous and do some exploring without too much worry of getting burried in deep powder. Grab the Delorme map and try some off trail riding.
ICE REPORT:
Melting and refreezing helps make ice! We are in pretty good shape now. Moosehead Lake is now completely covered with glare ice, 12-15 inches reported in most all locations. The ice is even smooth enough for skating in many spots. Some tracks have turned into frozen ruts in the high traffic areas. The trail has been marked from Mt. Kineo to Rockwood in the following direction. West to Rockwood's Public Landing at Kineo Docks, Green trail to Moosehead Motel near the mouth of the Moose River and along Rt 66 to The Birches Resort. Please stay on the marked trails. Ice conditions vary greatly depending on the body of water and location. With all the recent rain, outlets and inlets have strong currents that lessen the ice amounts. Again, please stay on the marked trails.
WILDLIFE REPORT:
Critters are easy to spot in the fresh snow. Moose and deer come to the roadside to get a taste of the salted roadways. The local whitetails have congregated back at town again. They stroll through camp regularly sampling a birdseed buffet. You may be able to catch a glimpse of them on the web cam. Both Moose and deer are shedding their antlers and a lucky shed hunter can pick up a great souveigneer. Keep an eye out!
